Chain Bridge

Chain Bridge

The Chain Bridge is one of the most famous landmarks in Budapest and the historic link between Buda and Pest. Opened in 1849, it was the first permanent bridge to connect the two sides of the city across the Danube, playing a key role in the development of modern Budapest.

Today, the bridge is one of the most beautiful places for a walk, especially in the evening when the lights illuminate the structure and reflect on the river. From here, you can also enjoy great views of Buda Castle on one side and the Parliament in the distance on the other.

Marina's tips
  • Look closely at the stone lion statues guarding the bridge. There’s a popular urban legend that the lions don’t have tongues. In reality they do, but from most angles it’s almost impossible to see them. The story became so famous that many visitors still try to spot them today.
